New Product Standard for Knitted Quick-Dry Garments in China

As the market for quick-dry garments continues to expand, staying compliant with industry standards is essential for retailers and manufacturers alike. A recent update from China highlights a new product standard that will affect how quick-dry garments are produced and sold.

What’s New?

On December 31, 2024, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the release of FZ/T 73077-2024, a new product standard specifically for knitted quick-dry garments. This standard will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Key Points of the Standard

  • Scope of Applicability: The standard is designed for quick-dry garments primarily made from knitted fabrics and also covers quick-dry accessories. Notably, it does not apply to garments intended for infants under 36 months.
  • Definition: Knitted quick-dry garments are defined as those made mainly from knitted fabrics, characterized by their absorption and quick-drying properties.
  • Safety and Quality Requirements:
    • The safety requirements align with existing rules in GB 18401.
    • For children’s garments, compliance with GB 31701 is also necessary.

Testing and Compliance

The standard outlines a comprehensive list of test items crucial for ensuring product quality. All testing requirements for garments and accessories include:

  • Absorption and Quick-Drying Properties
  • Fiber Content
  • Formaldehyde Content
  • pH Value
  • Odor
  • Decomposable Carcinogenic Aromatic Amines
  • Colorfastness:
    • Colorfastness to Water
    • Colorfastness to Perspiration
    • Colorfastness to Rubbing
    • Colorfastness to Washing (with soap or soap and soda)
    • Colorfastness to Light
