What is phthalates?

Phthalates, known as plasticizers, are chemical substances that could increase flexibility and softness of plastics. In cosmetic products, they are more commonly detected in nail polish, as phthalates could improve the performance of nail polish by reducing the possibility of cracking or being brittle.

In various countries, including European Union, Canada, ASEAN, China etc, different phthalates are already prohibited or restricted for use in cosmetic products.
