Waterproof Apparel Test
SGS is offering a testing service focus on outdoor activity protection. The testing plan is to ensure the product can achieve the expected functional performance level.
What is Durable Water Repellent (DWR) and how can it be tested?
In textile production, polymeric PFASs play a significant role in various applications, particularly as treatments that enhance the water, stain, and oil repellence of fabrics. This enhancement is commonly referred to as Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finishing. DWR finishing involves impregnating the fabric to prevent or delay water penetration, resulting in water-repellent, water-resistant, and waterproof properties. The test plan will evaluate the fabric's resistance to water and other liquids, as well as assess the durability of the treatment.
Test Item (Either One):
- Water resistance – Rain test
- Spray test
- Water resistance – Hydrostatic head (up to 5000mm)
What is Item Care and how can it be tested?
While garments endure abrasion and daily wear, the most significant damage occurs during washing and drying. Mechanical agitation, moisture exposure, and high temperatures can accelerate the breakdown of seams and materials over time. Testing will be conducted before and after care, you should follow the care label that accompanies your product. If your sample is expected for one-time use only or no cleaning procedures are allowed, please contact our experts for assistance.
