Regulations Update

SVHC Candidate List Expands to 250 Substances: Are You Ready?

2025.07.28

What Is the SVHC Candidate List?

Since January 2021, under the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD), companies placing articles on the EU market must notify the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) if their products contain more than 0.1% of a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC).

These notifications are submitted to the SCIP database, which promotes transparency and the safe use of chemicals throughout the supply chain.

June 2025 Update: 3 New Substances Added

On June 25, 2025, ECHA added three new substances to the Candidate List, increasing the total number of entries from 247 to 250.

These substances are classified as either:

  • Very Persistent and Very Bio-accumulative (vPvB)
  • Toxic for reproduction
