SGS Achieves Key Milestone with ZDHC Foundation Recognition
2024.09.03
SGS, a global frontrunner in inspection, testing, and certification services, has recently reached a significant milestone. The company’s softlines laboratories in Hong Kong have received official recognition from the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation, validating them as certified entities for compliance with the Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) Levels 1, 2, and 3, under MRSL V3.1.
Unique Recognition in the Industry
This achievement uniquely positions SGS as the only ZDHC Foundation-recognized entity operating in Kaohsiung, Chennai, Hai Phong, and Hong Kong that is approved for Levels 1, 2, and 3. It underscores SGS’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its strategic expansion of service capabilities aimed at assisting the fashion industry in achieving its zero discharge objectives.
Understanding ZDHC's Mission
The ZDHC Foundation is an industry-led initiative dedicated to eliminating hazardous chemicals from textile and footwear supply chains. Its MRSL, first introduced in 2014 and updated to V3.0 in November 2022, provides brands and suppliers with a unified list of chemical substances that are prohibited from intentional use in manufacturing processes.
SGS's Comprehensive Approach to Certification
With the approval to certify MRSL V3.1, SGS can now assist manufacturers and brands in effectively demonstrating their commitment to zero discharge in complex supply chains. The Chemical MRSL 3.0 conformance certification process includes laboratory testing, document review, and on-site assessments, providing a robust approach to verifying compliance with ZDHC MRSL Levels 1, 2, or 3.
The recent ZDHC certification approval of its Hong Kong laboratories further solidifies SGS’s position as a leader in providing comprehensive solutions for achieving zero discharge in the textile and footwear sectors.
