Fashion and functionality coexist, empowering the "Olympic Fashion Runway"

2024.09.06

The 2024 Paris Olympics,  alongside the exciting competitions, the eye-catching and unique sportswear of athletes from various countries is equally attention-grabbing. These sportswear designs cleverly blend elements of each country's culture while also ensuring functionality for athletic performance, showcasing a harmonious balance of beauty and strength.

For example, the sportswear of the Canadian delegation at the Olympics incorporates moisture-wicking and quick-drying functional fabrics, with excellent breathability to ensure athletes' comfort in terms of heat and moisture, thereby assisting athletes in achieving better performance during the Olympics.

Moisture-wicking and quick-drying performance:

The product has the performance of quickly absorbing liquid moisture it comes into contact with, conducting it to the outer surface, and then evaporating it dry.

Breathability/Permeability:

The product has the ability to allow water vapor to pass through.

In hot and humid seasons and during intense physical activities causing heavy sweating, clothing with moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and breathability properties helps prevent stuffiness and stickiness, regulates humidity, and provides a comfortable and cool feeling when worn.

Textile products can achieve moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties through various methods:

  • Physical modification:

Fiber cross-sectional shape modification, such as Y, +, W-shaped cross-sections, increasing fiber surface area to allow for more grooves on the fiber surface to enhance water vapor transmission.

Hollow or porous fibers utilize capillary action and increase fiber surface area to quickly spread sweat.

  • Chemical modification:

Increasing the fiber's hydrophilic groups (grafting, cross-linking) to achieve rapid moisture absorption, including fiber surface chemical modification, two-component composite spinning, and fiber ultrafine denier.

  • Structural design:

Using multi-layer fabric structures, with hydrophilic fibers as inner layer fabric to quickly absorb sweat generated by the body, then disperse it through the outer layer fabric gaps to the outside, achieving comfortable and cool performance.

  • Post finishing method:

Using moisture-wicking and quick-drying finishing agents to impart excellent moisture-wicking and quick-drying functions to the fabric through finishing processes.

As an internationally recognized testing, inspection, and certification organization, SGS can provide you with a range of textile functional testing services, including moisture-wicking and quick-drying performance.
