VOC Content for General Consumer Products
With reference to California Air Resources Board (CARB) Method 310 & U.S. Environment Protection Agency Method 24, our experts can provide volatile organic compounds (VOC) testing for emissions, aromatic compounds, and aromatic hydrocarbons in products.
What are Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)?
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a group of chemicals that easily turn into gases at room temperature and are found in many everyday products and processes. They are a major source of both indoor and outdoor air pollution.
How are VOCs harmful to human health?
Some VOCs are dangerous to human health or cause harm to the environment. VOCs (such as formaldehyde) are regulated by law, especially indoors, where concentrations can be the highest. Harmful VOCs typically are not immediately toxic, but have compounding long-term health effects. Because the concentrations are usually low and the symptoms develop slowly, the risks often go unnoticed until it is too late.
How can SGS help?
Our VOC services are designed to support both product and supply chain compliance, providing detailed testing and analysis of products and recommendations for managing risk.
