Manufacturers and vendors of equipment falling within the scope of the RED (2014/53/EU) that will be available on the market or put into service and use within a European Member State, must ensure it complies with all relevant requirements and has completed the applicable conformity procedures.

What are the RED’s essential requirements?

Generally, the essential requirements to be met are:

• 3.1a Health
• 3.1a Safety (2014/35/EU shall be included)
• 3.1b EMC 2014/30/EU
• 3.2 Radio
• 3.3 Requirements for radio equipment within certain categories or classes

For the requirements of RED sections 3.2 and 3.3, there are two ways to demonstrate conformity:

1. The manufacturer has applied HS, which uses any of the aforementioned procedures
2. The manufacturer has not applied, or has applied only in part HS, or where such HS do not exist, shall use either Annex III Module B and Module C or Annex IV Module H
