Food Contact Materials (FCMs) are regulated in different markets. Chemical safety is regulated in Commission Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004under EU & FDA under U.S. SGS can offer all range of services to comply with the regulation & standards.
EU - Commission Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 provides a harmonized legal EU framework. It sets out the general principles of safety and inertness for all Food Contact Materials (FCMs).
US - Any substance that is reasonably expected to become a component of food is a food additive that is subject to premarket approval by FDA, unless the substance is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) among experts qualified by scientific training and experience to evaluate its safety under the conditions of its intended use, or meets one of the other exclusions from the food additive definition in section 201(s) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). Any food additive that is intended to have a technical effect in the food is deemed unsafe unless it either conforms to the terms of a regulation prescribing its use or to an exemption for investigational use. Otherwise, in accordance with section 409 of the act, the substance is deemed an unsafe food additive. Any food that contains an unsafe food additive is adulterated under section 402(a)(2)(C) of the FFDCA.
The test will be conducted in compliance with the following standards

- ISO 8442

There are specific standards required to be tested for compliance in US and EU market. Therefore, following tests will be included according to the US / EU market test package.

Companies located outside the United States must designate a U.S. agent for FDA communications.|
|ASTM C149 (US) standard||A physical and mechanical standard for ensuring the performance of glass material according to US standard|
|Prop 65 court case (US California)||Chemical testing according to US California Proposition 65. Specific court case will be selected|
Only applicable test items will be conducted on selected product nature and destination market. Detailed test item list will be included in order confirmation email to upon order purchase. If the battery is included, additional battery requirements shall be arranged.
