Service Scope
The function of protecting the wearer from getting wet, wind blowing and the sun burn are very important for most outdoor clothing, accessories and equipment.
SGS is offering a testing service focus on the outdoor activity protection. The testing plan is to ensure the product can achieve the expected functional performance level.
If you have thoughts other than below, we are more than pleasure to suggest alternate test plans for you. Please contact us.
Test Type
DWR (Water Repellent / Water Resistant / Waterproof)
The test plan evaluates the water and liquid resistant performance of fabric. The durability of treatment will be assessed as well.
UPF (Ultra-violet Protection Factor)
The test plan aims to validate the UPF protection claim of the textile product.
Please select appropriate end use :
– Swimwear
– Other clothing (washable T-shirt, etc)
– Single Assessment
Different pre-treatment would be applied before assessment.
- Windproof
The test plan is designed to evaluate the wind resistant property of the product.

Test Description
DWR (Water Repellent / Water Resistant / Waterproof)
Test Item:
- Water resistance – Rain test
- Spray test
- Water resistance – Hydrostatic head (up to 5000mm)
UV Protection
Test Item:
- UV transmission of textile (UPF value)
Windproof
Test Item:
- Air Permeability of Textile Fabrics
Item Care:
Test will be repeated before and after item care, please choose according to the care label that will be put together with your product. If your sample is expected for one-time use only or no cleaning procedure allowed, please contact us for assistance.
Washable – Test sample as received and after washes.
Drycleanable – Test sample as received and after commercial dryclean.
Washable & Drycleanable – Test sample as received, after wash and after commercial dryclean.
Remarks
The test items will be adjusted depending on your product type and age range. Only specific test items will be applied to selected product type, test type and destination market. Detailed test item list will be included in order confirmation email upon purchase.
