Biodegradable Fabrics: Can We Really Compost Our Clothes?

[Content] When a piece of clothing wears out or goes out of fashion, it often gets tossed in the trash. But not every item of clothing is destined for the trash can. Clothes made from natural fibers are not only readily recycled, but at their ultimate end of life are biodegradable, releasing valuable nutrients back into the earth.

However, this is determined by the amount of chemicals used in the textile’s life cycle. There are different types of biodegradable fabrics based on their type of degradability, the duration they require to disintegrate fully, and their environmental effects.
