SGS Softlines Laboratories in Hong Kong Approved as ZDHC Foundation Certification Bodies to Levels 1, 2 and 3 of MRSL V3.1

2024.09.03

SGS, a global frontrunner in inspection, testing, and certification services, has recently achieved a significant milestone. The company's softlines laboratories in Hong Kong have received recognition from the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation. This endorsement validates them to act as ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) certification entities for compliance with Levels 1, 2, and 3 of MRSL V3.1.

Unique Recognition in the Industry

This achievement uniquely positions SGS as the only ZDHC Foundation-recognized entity operating in Kaohsiung, Chennai, Hai Phong, and Hong Kong approved to Levels 1, 2, and 3. It highlights SGS’s dedication to environmental sustainability and its strategic expansion across service capabilities, aiming to assist the fashion industry in realizing its zero discharge objectives.

The ZDHC Foundation is an industry-led initiative committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals from the textile and footwear supply chains. Their MRSL, first introduced in 2014 and updated to V3.0 in November 2022, offers brands and suppliers a unified list of chemical substances prohibited from intentional use in manufacturing and related processes.

SGS's Comprehensive Approach to Certification

With the approval to certify MRSL V3.1, SGS can now help manufacturers and brands effectively demonstrate their commitment to zero discharge in complex supply chains through its Chemical MRSL 3.0 conformance certification. This procedure includes laboratory testing, document review, and on-site assessment, providing a comprehensive approach to verifying the compliance of supplied chemical formulations with the criteria for ZDHC MRSL Levels 1, 2, or 3.

Operating a network of 2,650 offices and laboratories with a workforce of 97,000 employees globally, SGS continues to define international standards for quality, integrity, and sustainability. The recent ZDHC certification approval of its Hong Kong labs further solidifies its position as a frontrunner in offering comprehensive solutions for zero discharge in the textile and footwear sectors.
