The Electricity Ordinance (Cap. 406) (EO) and its subsidiary regulations set out a legal framework to regulate electrical safety in Hong Kong. To ensure the electrical safety of the public and building users, the Electricity (Wiring) Regulations made under the EO require that the owner(s) of the electrical installation in general buildings with approved loading exceeding 100A shall arrange a registered electrical contractor/worker (REC/REW) to install, then inspect, test and certify the installation safe at least once every 5 years.
A periodic inspection will:
- Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or accessories are overloaded;
- Find any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards;
- Identify any defective electrical work;
- Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding
